Ngunguru Sports Club has several tennis courts, petanque, bowls and a badminton hall. Matapouri Bay also has a tennis court.

Ngunguru hosts a 9 hole golf course. There are also 18 hole courses at each end of the Tutukaka Coast loop road - Whangarei Golf Course in Kamo and Hikurangi Golf Course to the north.
